WEST FARGO — During the Prep Baseball Future games in Georgia last summer, West Fargo Sheyenne junior Jake Dangerud got to brush shoulders with some of the top prospects from the 2028 class. It was during the event that a future in Division I college baseball could be in Dangerud’s future. ADVERTISEMENT “I thought I competed just as well with them,” Dangerud told The Forum. On Saturday, that future became reality. Dangerud announced his commitment to North Dakota State via social media. “It was all about finding a team that best fits me (and) where I can make an immediate impact,” Dangerud said. “North Dakota State made it really clear that they really wanted me.” Chris Flynn / Forum file photo The 6-foot-1 Dangerud, who bats and throws left, said he’s projected to play first base. He added he can also play the outfield if needed. Dangerud batted .495 with 36 RBIs and five home runs for Sheyenne last season. He is the third Mustang to commit to the Bison over the past two years. Pitcher Hudson Dinger and infielder Max Zenker also joined the program. “Dinger was at my visit,” Dangerud said. “He really persuaded me to go be a Bison. I’m super happy I get to be along for the ride with him.” West Fargo native Andy Young, who was hired as an assistant coach at NDSU over the summer, also played a role in the Bison landing Dangerud. ADVERTISEMENT “We would go to his barn and do an hour of hitting,” Dangerud said. “That’s really what pushed me over the edge.” Prep Baseball noted that offensively Dangerud “has a solid bat speed” and “has a knack for finding barrel.” The site listed him as having a 96-mph exit velocity and “reads hops well” defensively. “I have the ability to run a lot of baseballs out of the park,” Dangerud said. “(I’m) also a guy who’s not going to strike out a lot.” Dangerud added that he’s still improving on his speed and hopes that the Bison program will help him take the next steps in his development. As he enters his junior year this spring, Dangerud said he wants to add to his team trophy case next season. “I want to bring a couple state championships to coach (Jason Beilke) of Sheyenne and coach (Jordan Rheault) over at West Fargo baseball,” Dangerud said. “We’re all working as a team to get back up to that championship level.” David Samson / Forum file photo Comments Share Share this article News Reporting News Reporting Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources.
