Man killed in north-central North Dakota crash

VELVA, N.D. — A 67-year-old Karlsruhe, North Dakota, man died Tuesday, Sept. 22, in a two-vehicle crash about 3 miles east of Velva, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on 44th Street North at 12th Avenue North. Velva is about 22 miles southeast of Minot. Carey Ziegler, 67, was driving a 2012 GMC Sierra west on 44th Street North when it was struck by a 2004 Freightliner pulling a dump trailer, the patrol said in a release. The Freightliner, driven by Justin Baker, 46, of Parshall, North Dakota, was traveling east on 44th Street North and turning north onto 12th Avenue North when it struck the Sierra. Ziegler died at the scene. Baker was not injured; both drivers were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation, the release said. ]]>
